Position Title: Advisory Board (Legal)

Location: Remote

Type: Volunteer Position

Duration: 1-year term with the option for renewal

Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per month

Position Overview: Unity for Children is seeking a dedicated and experienced legal professional to join our Volunteer Advisory Board as a Legal Advisor. The Legal Advisor will play a crucial role in providing legal guidance and support to the organization, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and assisting in the overall success of our mission.

Responsibilities:

1. Legal Guidance: Provide legal advice and guidance on matters related to nonprofit governance, compliance, contracts, and other legal issues as they arise.

2. Policy Review and Development: Review and, when necessary, assist in the development of policies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

3. Contract Review: Review contracts, agreements, and legal documents to protect the organization's interests and ensure legal compliance.

4. Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks and work collaboratively with the board and staff to implement strategies to mitigate those risks.

5. Training and Education: Collaborate with the board and staff to provide training and educational resources on legal matters relevant to the organization's activities.

6. Legal Advocacy: Advise on legal strategies that align with the organization's mission and goals, and represent the organization's legal interests when necessary.

7. Board Meetings: Attend advisory board meetings (in-person or virtually) to provide legal insights and participate in discussions relevant to the legal aspects of the organization.

Qualifications:

1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

2. Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.

3. Proven experience in nonprofit law and governance.

4. Strong understanding of relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

5. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

6. Commitment to the mission and values of Unity for Children.
